How it Works

If you have never sewn before, or are flummoxed by your machine and how it works, we recommend that students start off with our Machine Basics Class.

After students understand how operate a sewing machine and learn to sew straight & curved seams, the next step is to move onto a small project. We’ve created an “Intro to Sewing” Series where students can do just that. Each two-part course includes a (Machine Basics) refresh and will provide an overview of patterns, fabric, cutting, pressing and more. AND each course includes all the materials needed to complete the project. This series of classes includes a zipper pouch course, a tote bag course & an apron course.

The next step is practice, practice and more practice. THE FUN PART! (Well at least one fun part) For this part of your sewing journey, you might consider our weekly classes. Over the course of a month (at a time) you will experience the support you need to work through a project. It may take you longer than a month to finish your project. That depends on the size of the project and your personal speed. You will find that you will learn new things and understand all the terminology with each project (garment, accessory, personal item) you create. The best way to find those classes is on our weekday and weekend schedule pages.

You might also want to learn some adjacent skills like embroidery, quilting or knitting. These are fun additions to your sewing practice and can be great hobbies as well. Check out our Specialty Class Schedule for more info.

Private lessons are perfect at any level for Budding Designers, Fashion Students in either High School or College as well as the Beginning  to Advanced Sewing Enthusiasts. In a private lesson, the student works one-on-one with an Instructor.  Private lessons are a FOCUSED way to gain the skills you need to move forward in your Goals.

If you are really into Fashion, interested in Fashion as a career or just want to learn even more about the process of Garment Construction, Design & Illustration, we have a semester long Fashion Classes in our Fashion Studies program.

Please note:

Students bring or purchase a project which includes a pattern, fabric and thread. Our sewing experts come with a wealth of experience as well as a joy for teaching. We like to create an atmosphere of creative play and are here to make your sewing experience the best it can be.

We do not have regular classes during school holidays. See Class Description in registration process specific dates.

“Just a couple of months ago I signed up for sewing classes. All I knew about sewing was how to sew in a straight line! Thanks to Jennifer's guidance, I have gained sooooooo much confidence, skill and enjoyment in sewing, that I have taken on sewing as my new favorite pastime. I just finished a purse and am making many sweet, soft baby items for myself and others. Next up, a party dress someday??? Don't miss this opportunity to learn such a fun and useful skill!”
