Responsible Fashion is a term presented to me by fellow colleague, Janice Paredes from FIDM (my alma mater).  It's a new way to look at Clothing and the Fashion Industry.  It's about choosing a responsible way to wear your clothes and a responsible way to spend your money.  It involves deeper thinking beyond just looking at the style and price.  Responsible Fashion is looking at the WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN AND HOW your clothes get made.  

I feel it is deeply important for all of us to understand how our clothing gets made, how many hands touch them (before us) and where they come from.  I put a lot of value in the process, being a lifetime stitcher and as I mentioned earlier this month, one of my core values is being ENVIRONMENTALLY conscious (Saving Planet Earth). There are so many ways we can be environmentally conscious with our clothing - Wearing Vintage, Buying Used, Upcycling and Recycling fabric and textiles, Buying Hand Made (by the way, 99% of all clothing is hand made - more on that another time), Buying Local, Wearing Organic and Natural Fibers & More.  

Most clothing manufacturing has moved out of the United States, which has made buying locally made clothing fairly difficult and buying US made fabric, next to impossible . That's why I'm super excited to introduce you to:

They are a Fabric MILL just out side of Sacramento, CA.  They make fabric using vintage machinery and with US grown natural fibers. Their mission is:

To provide the highest quality, small-batch and bespoke cloth while sourcing natural fibers from the US to make a truly high-quality American-made product reminiscent of the golden age of textiles.

Some of their offerings are Denim, Chambray, Canvas & Wool.  I'm hoping to have a field trip ) to visit the mill for a tour.  Please let me know if you think you might be interested or if your child might be interested in seeing how fabric gets made and to learn more about what this amazing company is doing.
